On July 11th, 2022 the FBD Inc organization was given permission by the Grayling City Council to erect a 7 and a half foot bronze statue of Fred Bear in the Grayling City Park. Fred Bear loved Grayling and was a pioneer in archery and bow hunting. His love for northern Michigan and commitment to conservation taught others and generations to follow, how to honor and respect the great outdoors. A monument in his honor will preserve the legend he was. In the wind his spirit is still alive.
The statue of Fred Bear will take 10-12 months to create with the expected delivery sometime in 2024. Stay tuned for a date for the unveiling party! Location is the Grayling City Park in Grayling, MI.
Our groundbreaking ceremony took place in the fall of 2022. The statue base was poured shortly after and was covered for the winter to protect it from the elements.
The statue base has been generously donated by Jack Millikin Inc. from Grayling, MI. The stone work and bas relief plaque with Fred Bear history will be placed in 2023. Thank you JC Millikin and his crew for creating a beautiful base for the statue!
Ben Watts creates original wildlife, western, and figurative works, as well as commissioned monuments and bronze portraits. His commissioned portraits include NFL great Walter Payton and U.S. Senator Howell Heflin of Alabama. Mr. Watts also created the 11-foot statue of Fred Bear for the Archery Hall of Fame at the Wonders of Wildlife Museum in Springfield, MO, where Fred Bear was the first person inducted into the Archery Hall of Fame in 1972. The Grayling location will have a 7 and a half foot tall statue of Fred Bear in the Grayling City Park in the near future will take 10-12 months to complete.
